When booking your course you can book an airport transfer to take you directly to your accommodation, or you can travel by public transport. If it is your first visit to Ireland we strongly recommend that you book a transfer.

To travel by public transport take any bus to the city centre (about 20 mins) then a train to Bray. The Dublin metro is called the DART, for Dublin Area Rapid Transit. It takes about 40 minutes to travel to Bray from the city centre.

If you book a transfer with ATC we will collect you from your designated airport. Host family students are taken directly to their family and groups are taken to their centre and met there by the host family.

Courses start each Monday at 9am for morning students and 1.45pm for afternoon students. The school is open from 8.30am. We welcome you at reception where you register on arrival.
If you haven’t taken the online level test, you will take a level placement test and our Director of Studies checks your oral level and carries out a needs analysis. As your placement test is being corrected, our student liaison officer gives you our student handbook, and explains ATC programmes to you. You have an opportunity here to discuss issues and possible problems such as accommodation, transport etc. Emergency exits and safety at school is explained and you are taken on a tour of the school. The Director of Studies meets you after the tour, having identified your level and allocated a specific class for you. You can of course discuss your course options with the Director of Studies at any time during your stay. The Welfare Officer is always available to help you with any issues or problems you may have.
You then meet the other students at a coffee break, and then are taken to class for the second lesson of the day.
After lunch, you are taken on a walking tour of Dublin. Your family will welcome you home in the evening.

When you do your test, we check grammar, vocabulary and speaking, listening and writing skills.

Our check for accuracy and skills will help us place you in a class with other students of similar comprehension and production ability. At ATC we follow the Council of Europe’s Common European Framework for Language Learning. Each level has a syllabus with can-do statements.

Take our online placement test here to determine your English level.

International Mix
Of course, everyone has different strengths and weaknesses, so we expect students in an international group class to interact and support each other.
Remember that over 80% of the world’s English is spoken amongst non-native speakers. In 2016 we welcomed over 45 different nationalities.
Resources & Materials
Before you start your course you will have already received your login details to log into the Guided E- learning platform. We provide your learning materials here in school. When you enrol with ATC you pay the course book and e-learning fee. On your first day of school you will receive your course book.
We use coursebooks during the first lesson of the day, to focus on functions and skills. Various communicative techniques are used, to allow for a variety of learning styles amongst students. In the second class we use a variety of published materials to aid such activities as vocabulary building, and authentic materials such as newspapers, videos, radio, magazines etc.
Teachers balance pair group and individual work in class and encourage students to discuss any issues they may have.
When you feel ready you may like to move up a level. To move class, discuss the issues with your teacher first. Teachers will discuss your progress and suggest a next step. Teachers liaise with the Director of Studies who will arrange any moves to be made.

ATC Language & Travel employs teachers who have a university degree and a recognised qualification for Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
